Prime Minister co-chairs the 18th India-ASEAN Summit

  • Prime Minister Modi participated in the 18th India-ASEAN Summit at the invitation of brunei, the current chair of ASEAN.
  • Highlighting the milestone of 30th anniversary of India-ASEAN Partnership, the leaders announced the Year 2022 as India-ASEAN Friendship Year.

Indo-UK Tri-Service Exercise ‘Konkan Shakti 2021’ Concludes

  • The maiden bilateral tri-service exercise, Konkan Shakti 21, between the armed forces of India and the UK culminated in the Arabian Sea on 27 October 2021.
  • Exercise is the result of India-UK 2030 Roadmap announced in May 2021 by the Prime Ministers of both the countries

India, ADB sign $251 million loan for integrated urban flood management in Chennai

  • The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) today signed a $251 million loan for climate-resilient, integrated urban flood protection and management in the Chennai-Kosasthalaiyar basin to strengthen resilience of Chennai city to floods.

Government of India releases balance amount of ₹ 44,000 crore to States and UTs

  • The Ministry of Finance has released ₹44,000 crore today to the States and UTs with Legislature under the back-to-back loan facility in lieu of GST Compensation
  • After taking into account earlier release of ₹ 1,15,000 crore (₹ 75,000 crore released on 15th July, 2021 and ₹ 40,000 crore released on 07th October, 2021), total amount released in the current financial year as back-to-back loan in-lieu of GST compensation is ₹1,59,000 crore.

Union Agriculture Minister Shri Narendra Singh Tomar addresses National Conference on 'International Year of Fruits and Vegetables'

  • Organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations. 
  • The conference was organized as part of the celebration of the “International Year of Fruits and Vegetables, 2021” declared by United Nations Organization.
  • The theme for this year is “Awareness about the nutritional benefits of fruits and vegetables for balanced and healthy diet and life style.”
  • India is the second-largest producer of horticulture, producing about 12% of the global fruit and vegetable production.
  • During the year 2019-20, we recorded the highest ever production of 331.05 million tonnes in horticulture, while the horticulture production for 2020-21 is estimated to be 331.05 million metric tonnes, which is also higher than the previous year.

Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare releases Third Advance Estimates of Area and Production of Horticultural Crops of 2020-21

  • Record 331.05 million tonnes of horticulture production in the country. This shows an increase of 10.6 million tonnes (3.3%) over 2019-20.
  • Area (in Million Ha) - 27.59
  • Production of Fruits is estimated to be 103.0 Million Tonne, compared to 102.1 Million Tonne achieved in 2019-20.
  • Production of Vegetables is estimated to be 197.2 Million Tonne compared to last year’s production of 188.3 Million Tonne that is, an increase of 4.8%.
  • Production of Onion is reported to be 26.8 Million Tonne as against 26.1 Million Tonne achieved in 2019-20.
  • Production of Potato is estimated to a record production of 54.2 Million Tonne in 2020-21, an increase by 5.6 Million Tonne compared to 2019-20.
  • Production of Tomato is reported to be 21.1 Million Tonne, as against production of 20.6 Million Tonne achieved in 2019-20.
  • An increase of 6.2%, from 0.73 Million Tonne in 2019-20 to 0.78 Million Tonne in 2020-21, has been registered in Aromatic & Medicinal crops.
  • Production of Plantation Crops has increased from 16.1 Million Tonne in 2019-20 to 16.6 Million Tonne in 2020-21.
  • Production of Spices has increased by 5.3%, from 10.1 Million Tonne in 2019-20 to 10.7 Million Tonne in 2020-21.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh launches India’s First and Unique Manned Ocean Mission Samudrayan at Chennai

  • The Minister informed that sea trials of 500 metre rated shallow water version of the manned submersible are expected to take place in the last quarter of 2022 and the MATSYA 6000, the deep water manned submersible will be ready for trials by the second quarter of 2024
  • With the advancing subsea technologies, the recent Fendouzhe manned submersible developed by China in 2020 has touched ~11000m water depths, the Minister added.

Ministry of Food Processing Industries, in association with NAFED, launches ‘Dilli Bakes’ – First ‘One District, One Product’ (ODOP) brand under PMFME Scheme

  • According to NAFED, the whole wheat rusks is a unique product as it is made with jaggery instead of sugar and contains butter instead of vanaspati.
  • Under the PMFME Scheme, the Ministry of Food Processing industries had signed an MoU with NAFED for developing ten brands of the selected ODOPs under the branding & marketing component of the scheme.

PM Formalization of Micro Food Processing Enterprises (PM FME)
  • Ministry - Ministry for Food Processing Industries (MoFPI)
  • Date - 29th June 2020
  • It will be implemented over a period of five years from 2020-21 to 2024-25 with an outlay of Rs 10,000 crore.
  • The expenditure under the scheme would to be shared in 60:40 ratio between Central and State Governments, in 90:10 ratio with North Eastern and Himalayan States, 60:40 ratio with UTs with legislature and 100% by Centre for other UTs.
  • The Scheme adopts One District One Product (ODODP) approach to reap benefit of scale in terms of procurement of inputs, availing common services and marketing of products.
  • The States would identify food product for a district keeping in view the existing clusters and availability of raw material.
Incentives Proposed under Program
  • Existing Individual micro food processing units desirous of upgradation of their unit can avail credit-linked capital subsidy @35% of the eligible project cost with a maximum ceiling of Rs.10 lakh per unit. 
  • Seed capital @ Rs. 40,000/- per SHG member would be provided for working capital and purchase of small tools.
  • FPOs/ SHGs/ producer cooperatives would be provided credit linked grant of 35% for capital investment along the value chain. 
  • Support would be provided through credit linked grant @ 35% for development of common infrastructure including common processing facility, lab, warehouse, cold storage, packaging and incubation center through FPOs/SHGs/cooperatives or state owned agencies or private enterprise to use by micro units in the cluster
  • Support for marketing & branding would be provided to develop brands for micro units and groups with 50% grant at State or regional level which could benefit large number of micro units in clusters.
Training and Capacity Building
  • The Scheme places special focus on capacity building and research. NIFTEM and IIFPT, two academic and research institutions under MOFPI along with State Level Technical Institutions selected by the States would be provided support for training of units, product development, appropriate packaging and machinery for micro units.
